About

Lucy Le Masurier (She/They) is a queer photomedia practitioner based in Sydney, Australia. Le Masurier completed their bachelor of Visual Arts with Honours (first class) from Sydney College of the Arts in 2016, Master of Publishing in 2017. They are a PhD candidate in the department of Design Architecture and Building at the University of Technology Sydney, where they have been teaching and lecturing in photography and visual communication since 2016. Le Masurier has been in a collection of group shows, nominated for an emerging artist award, and had their first solo show in March 2018.

Le Masurier's practice concerns itself with the way images are represented and received. It looks at how an image is constructed through dominant systems, be they patriarchal, heteronormative, binary, or colonial, and how audiences interpret and are conditioned by these messages. Their work looks at themes of visibility, censorship, representation, affect, and trauma using a mix of mediums including photography, video, interviews, voice recordings, and AI.

Le Masurier strives to adhere to an ethical practice, and every person they work with is considered a collaborator in the art making process. Le Masurier is committed to diversity and inclusion in their practice.
